Integration Training at Winnova
In integration training, you study Finnish. Other topics related to Finland are also covered.
In Pori, integration training takes place at Winnova. Winnova is a school. You can apply for integration training through the TE office. Ask your TE office representative if you want to participate in integration training.
Integration training typically lasts a few months. During the training, you may receive unemployment benefits. You can ask the TE office and Kela for advice about unemployment benefits.
Satakunta Multicultural Association (SMY)
SMY offers several Finnish language classes. There are classes for beginners and more advanced learners. You can also practice speaking Finnish at SMY. Finnish speaking can be practiced in the Finnish Conversation Club and the Living Language Chain.
Finnish language classes and the conversation club can be found in the club calendar, which is available on the SMY website. To attend the classes and the club, you must pay the association’s membership fee and the course material fee. One material fee allows you to attend several Finnish lessons and clubs. Please check with the Finnish language teacher to see which classes you can join. Sometimes, some classes may be full, and you cannot attend.
You can join the Living Language Chain if you already speak some Finnish. The Living Language Chain is a place where you can speak Finnish with Finns and other immigrants. For more information, visit the SMY website.
Finnish Language Teaching in Other Places
Sometimes, Finnish language courses are offered in Pori outside of Winnova and SMY. Finnish courses are sometimes available at Otsola Adult Education Center and Pori Region Adult Education Center. The courses at these adult education centers are paid. The prices are generally affordable, meaning they cost little.
Independent Study
It is important to also study Finnish independently. Independent study refers to all Finnish learning outside of lessons and clubs. Generally, people need to study both in courses and independently to learn Finnish well.
Finnish language skills are important when applying for jobs. Most jobs require knowledge of Finnish.
It is good to study Finnish every day at home. For example, you can learn three new words every day. You can also read Finnish language articles and translate new words into your own native language. You can also read children’s books in Finnish, as the language used in children’s books is often simpler.
There are many websites and tools on the internet for independent study of Finnish.
