CV i.e. resume

This section provides information on the resume, which is also called a CV.

When a person in Finland applies for a job, they create a job application and a resume. These are sent to the employer when applying for a job.

A resume is a short summary of a person’s work experience and skills.

When creating your resume, always keep in mind the job you are applying for. Mention the things about yourself that are relevant to the position you’re applying for.

It’s important that your resume is easy to read. Therefore, make your resume clear and easy to follow. You can find examples of resume layouts in resume templates.

A good length for a resume is one page. Do not make a resume longer than two pages.

If the employer requests a specific file format for your resume, send it in that format. For example, they might ask for the resume to be in a PDF file format.

Make sure your resume has clear headings. Possible headings could be: Education, Work Experience, Language Skills, IT Skills, and Hobbies.

When describing your work experience, mention the job title first and then the company name. For example: Salesperson, Siwa. Or: Welder, Metalli Oy.

When describing your education, mention the name of the course or program first, followed by the institution’s name. For example: Basic Finnish Language Course, West Coast Education Oy WinNova.

When mentioning your language skills, be honest. Do not exaggerate or downplay your language abilities. Language skills are described using terms like: native language, excellent, good, fair, or basic. You can evaluate your spoken and written language skills separately, especially if there’s a big difference between the two.

IT skills refer to computer skills. Some jobs require a lot of IT skills, while others require fewer. Be honest about your IT skills. Think about which of your IT skills are relevant for the job you’re applying for.

You may mention hobbies, but it is not mandatory. Sometimes, a hobby might be useful when applying for a job. For example, if the job involves physical labor, it may be beneficial to mention if you engage in sports.

When creating your resume in Finnish, it is a good idea to have someone who speaks Finnish well check it. A well-written resume in Finnish increases your chances of getting a job interview.

It is important to create your resume carefully. Attention to detail shows the employer that you are genuinely interested in the job.
